For the past several years, I've been mostly convinced that the shit is going to hit the fan in my lifetime. I feel like I'm sitting in Rome, watching Nero play his fiddle and biding my time until the Vandals tromp on through.

Here's a good write-up about how a lawyer set an Ohio precedent saying that bicycles are traffic. I mean, d'uh, right? If a combine can plod along down the highway at reduced speeds, why are bicyclists being villified when our net effect is to reduce traffic?

The Internet is all fine and dandy, but I really miss the days of local, area code specific computer BBSes. It was pretty cool knowing you were chatting with someone who, theoretically, you could go have a coffee with if you felt like it. So, trepia is a damn fine idea, but it's not really community oriented enough. GeoURL is a pretty spiffy way to see what your neighbors are gossiping about.

I didn't like Milli Vanilli when they were so fricking trendy, and I was vindicated. I didn't like C&C Music Factory when they were hot shit and, has anybody ever admitted to liking them since 1992? I've also always thought Metallica were a bunch of chodes. Well, that's just a hoax link, but when a band is this well hated, it's safe to say that they've seriously jumped the proverbial shark.

Hey, remember when Bush said he was going to invest in American volunteer programs after September 11th? Okay boys and girls, say it with me now, "well, he lied." But at least he's going to singlehandedly save the economy by spending $426,640 a day between now and the election trying to save his sorry ass.

So, I was arrested for standing off the sidewalk and basically being uppity at Friday's Critical Mass. Good times. Well, no, not really, but the Justice Center has good cookies in their sack lunches. Apparently KGW has coverage of me in handcuffs. There's a video link on their web site, but I don't have broadband to check it out.

I have a feeling that this tale of Googlewashing made the blogger rounds a couple months ago, but it's worth passing along anyway. Basically, we need to be wary that Google's search monopoly doesn't lead to any more abuses. Sure, they seem like a benevolent corporation, but most underdog businesses that are on the rise seem that way at first. It's also a hell of a lot easier for neer-do-wells to attack a single, centralized system than a distributed, competitive network.

Turn about is not fair play. Well, I don't agree with all of the assumptions in this article, but it makes a lot of good points about the current status of gender in our compulsory educational system. Girls still face a hostile culture, but it's patently obvious that our culture fucks boys up, too.

I just uploaded a gallery of photographs from the 4-11 PPRC anti-war march. It was unique as far as weekly PPRC marches go, since we ended up ending the march outside the Portland Art Museum where Gov. Kulongoski and various other establishment wonks were doing whatever establishment wonks do when establishment wonks get together and wear tuxedos.

I love how ancient Greek comedy is still funny to contemporary audiences. Okay, it's funny to me, at least. Lysistrata is one of Aristophanes' most amusing plays. But don't take my word for it: Lysistrata will be read in cities across the world on March 3rd.
Mmm... Anti-war activism, humor, theater, sexual innuendo and a history lesson all rolled into one event. Or, actually, 620 events in 38 countries. Incidentally, ladies, if you do decide to boycott having sex with any warmongering males in your life, you might want to consider visiting this site. Or, you know, uhm, you could just give me a call.
